Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
Each grade is converted to points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0 and so on), multiplied by the course credits to get quality points, and the total quality points are divided by the total credits.
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted GPA uses the plain 4.0 scale. Weighted GPA adds a bonus (usually 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP or IB) so that harder classes can push a GPA above 4.0. Schools differ, so check your own policy.
How do I calculate my cumulative GPA?
Enter your current GPA and the credits behind it. The calculator combines your previous quality points (GPA × credits) with this term’s to give the new overall GPA.
Does every school use this scale?
This is the common US 4.0 scale with plus/minus grades. Some schools use different values (for example A+ = 4.3 or no minus grades), so treat the result as a close estimate.
