Frequently asked questions
How do I convert military time to standard time?
For hours 00–12 the number stays the same (with 00 becoming 12 AM and 12 staying 12 PM). For 13–23, subtract 12 and add PM. So 1830 is 6:30 PM.
How do I convert standard time to military time?
AM times keep their hour, except 12 AM becomes 00. PM times add 12 to the hour, except 12 PM stays 12. So 6:30 PM becomes 1830.
Is it 0000 or 2400 for midnight?
Midnight at the start of a day is 0000. 2400 is sometimes used for the end of the day, but most systems, including the military in the US, use 0000.
How is military time spoken?
Each digit pair is read as a number followed by “hours”. 0600 is “zero six hundred hours” and 1345 is “thirteen forty-five hours”.
