Frequently asked questions
How long should a title tag and meta description be?
Aim for titles under about 60 characters and descriptions under about 160, so they are not truncated in search results. Pixel width matters too, so the limits are approximate.
Do meta keywords help SEO?
No. Google has ignored the keywords meta tag for years. It is included here as optional for other systems, but you can safely leave it empty.
What does a canonical URL do?
It tells search engines which URL is the preferred version of a page, so duplicate or parameterised URLs do not split ranking signals. Use the full, absolute URL.
What image size should I use for social sharing?
Use 1200×630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio) as a JPG or PNG under 5 MB. It displays well on Facebook, LinkedIn and as a large card on X.
