Frequently asked questions
How does the diff work?
It finds the longest common subsequence between the two texts and marks everything outside it as added or removed. This is the same idea behind git diff and most code review tools.
What is the difference between line, word and character mode?
Line mode shows whole changed lines, ideal for code. Word mode highlights changed words inside a paragraph, and character mode highlights individual letters, useful for spotting typos.
Can I ignore whitespace changes?
Yes. Tick Ignore whitespace to treat runs of spaces and tabs as equal and ignore leading or trailing space, and Ignore case to compare without regard to capitalisation.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser, so confidential documents and source code stay on your device.
