Password Generator

Create strong random passwords right in your browser. Choose the length and character types and see an estimate of how long it would take to crack.

Characters

How to generate a strong password

  1. Drag the length slider; 16 or more characters is a good minimum, 20+ is better.
  2. Tick the character types you want, and optionally avoid look-alike characters or exclude symbols a site does not allow.
  3. Click Copy next to a password, or Generate new for a different one. The strength meter shows its entropy.

Features

Fully customisable

Length 4–128 and any mix of character types.

Cryptographically secure

Strength estimate

Entropy in bits and an offline crack-time estimate.

Private

Everything is generated in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a password be?

Length matters more than complexity. Use at least 16 characters for important accounts. Each extra character multiplies the work an attacker must do, so a 20-character random password is beyond any realistic brute-force attack.

Is this password generator safe?

Yes. Passwords are created in your browser with crypto.getRandomValues, the same cryptographically secure source used for encryption keys, and are never sent anywhere or stored.

What is entropy?

Entropy measures unpredictability in bits: a password with 80 bits needs about 2⁸⁰ guesses to crack. Over 80 bits is considered strong; over 110 is excellent.

Should I reuse a generated password?

No. Use a different random password for every account and keep them in a password manager so you only have to remember one master passphrase.
