Frequently asked questions
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is the image format iPhones use by default. It stores photos at roughly half the size of JPG, but many Windows apps, websites and older devices cannot open it, so converting to JPG makes it universally compatible.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
JPG is lossy, so a little detail is discarded, but at 90–95% quality the difference is rarely visible. Choose PNG if you need a lossless copy, at the cost of a larger file.
Why is the first conversion slow?
Most browsers cannot read HEIC natively, so a decoder library is downloaded the first time and then reused. Safari decodes HEIC itself and is faster.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser, so private photos never leave your device.
