Frequently asked questions

Why is the extracted text empty?

The PDF is probably a scan, where each page is a picture of text. Text extraction only reads selectable text; scanned documents need OCR, which this tool does not provide.

Will the layout be preserved?

The tool keeps reading order and line breaks, but tables and multi-column layouts become plain lines of text. Complex formatting is not reproduced.

Why are some characters wrong?

Some PDFs use custom font encodings that do not map cleanly to Unicode, which can produce odd symbols when copying text. This is a limitation of the PDF itself.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Text is extracted in your browser with PDF.js and the file never leaves your device.
