Frequently asked questions

Do emojis count as one character?

This counter counts visible characters (Unicode code points), so most emojis count as one. Some platforms count them differently — X, for example, counts most emojis as two — so leave a little margin.

Why is the byte count higher than the character count?

Letters outside basic ASCII, such as accented characters, Chinese or emoji, take two to four bytes in UTF-8. Byte limits matter for SMS and some databases.

What is the ideal meta description length?

Google typically shows up to about 155–160 characters on desktop and fewer on mobile. Keep the key message in the first 120 characters.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Counting runs in your browser; nothing is stored or sent.
