Frequently asked questions

How do I use capture groups?

Tick Regular expression, write a pattern with parentheses such as (\w+)@(\w+), and refer to the groups in the replacement with $1 and $2.

How do I replace line breaks or tabs?

Enable Regular expression and search for \n (line break) or \t (tab). To join all lines into one, find \n+ and replace with a space.

Why does “Whole words only” not match my term?

Whole-word mode requires the match to be surrounded by spaces, punctuation or the start/end of text. “cat” will not match inside “category”.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. Searching and replacing happen in your browser with JavaScript; nothing is uploaded.
