Frequently asked questions
How are words counted?
A word is any run of letters or digits, including hyphenated words and contractions like don’t. Punctuation and symbols on their own are not counted.
What counts as a sentence?
Text ending in a period, question mark, exclamation mark or ellipsis. Abbreviations such as “e.g.” can occasionally be counted as sentence breaks, so treat the figure as a close estimate.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time assumes 225 words per minute, a typical adult pace for everyday text. Speaking time assumes 140 words per minute, a comfortable presentation pace.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
